Course Overview
This highly practical and interactive day's training is designed to ensure that all employees are familiar with current and forthcoming legislation and best practice as it relates to data protection and confidentiality. This includes reference to the Care Act, 2014. The course covers organisational and individual responsibilities around information collecting, storing and sharing. It references organisational expectations and policies throughout. Use will be made of scenarios, case studies, and small group work throughout the day.

This course aims to equip delegates with the skills to- Understand what is meant by confidentiality
- Describe the legislation that informs data protection and confidentiality
- Have an awareness General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR)
- Know the circumstances in which it is important to disclose information
- Identify when to seek consent from the individual

- Confidentiality: Definitions, relevant legislation and GDPR regulations
- Disclosures of breaches: the hierarchy of loyalty
- Clarifying expectations of staff, service users, and their families
- Safeguarding information inside and outside the organisation
- Requests for personal files (service users and staff)
- Requesting personal files, capacity and sharing information with other agencies
