Makaton Level 1 Course Overview This workshop is for people supporting children or adults with learning disabilities or communication difficulties. It is aimed at beginners and it is designed to help delegates gain skills and knowledge in using signs and symbols from the Makaton vocabulary as well as regognise its difference from other means of communication and how to use it in everyday life. Learning Outcomes This course aims to provide delegates with the skills to: Use signs and symbols from the initial stages of the Makaton Vocabulary Recognise key features of the Makaton Vocabulary and why it may be useful Distinguish between Makaton and other means of communication Identify ways to use the signs and symbols in everyday circumstances Methods of Delivery A range of methods will be used. These include: demonstration; recognition and recall practice of signs; paired and small group work; games. There will be some presentations from the trainer. Training Considerations This course is a standalone course aimed at staff working with people with communication difficulties. No previous Makaton training is needed. Certification The delegates will receive a certificate accredited by the Makaton Society upon completion of the course.
