Schizophrenia and Related Conditions: An Introduction (Half Day) Course Overview Central Training's Introduction to Schizophrenia and Related Conditions aims to equip candidates with the skills and knowledge to provide practical and emotional support to people living with schizophrenia and related conditions within a good practice framework. The course will define the meaning of the diagnostic term and outline characteristic 'signs and symptoms' of Schizophrenia and other psychotic conditions - voices, visions and unusual beliefs. Causes of Schizophrenia will be explored from both medical and psycho-social perspectives. NICE recommended approaches to treatment will be highlighted and candidates will be encouraged to critique issues of availability, acceptability and choice of treatment from a service user's perspective. Finally, the trainer will cover growing evidence supporting the use of psychological and social approaches to Schizophrenia that can promote engagement, self-care and recovery from psychosis.
