Course Overview



This half day course provides an opportunity for all workers who come into contact with service users to explore what is meant by boundaries and good practice and to identify ways in which boundaries can be established and maintained so as to protect both the worker and the service user and also to consider how they can be broken and the consequences of this.

This course is designed to provide delegates with the tools to:
  • Understanding good practice and professionalism within a support setting
  • Explore the meaning and purpose of boundaries
  • Work within relevant legislation, codes of conduct and ethics
  • Consider and manage personal disclosure
  • Manage client-worker and inter-colleague boundaries

  • Methods of Delivery


    The facilitator will employ a range of teaching methods including direct input, small and large group activities, discussions, use of case study material and PowerPoint slides.

    • Legal and ethical frameworks and guidelines
    • Broken boundaries and signs of boundary crossing
    • Maintaining boundaries and the 'grey area' of boundary crossing
    • Inter-colleague boundaries

    Target Audience

    Both new and experienced support staff who will benefit from an opportunity to define and reflect on fundamental principles of professional boundaries and good practice.
